PRESS RELEASE:
TOASTED

texas toast jam, 2015

June 26th 2015 – After 4 incredible and positive events, we are sorry to inform everyone that this year’s Texas Toast Jam has been called off.

A few variables beyond our control lead us to this decision, but the bottom line is that we simply could not gather the level of sponsorship support that is required for doing the event properly. Toast is a casual jam and might appear rough around the edges, but in reality it is a lot of work, and it also takes a lot of money to make it happen. We have to pay a legit staff of builders, buy and rent equipment, offer prize money, make sure the judges have pens and cover a million other details in order to keep this international event rolling smoothly. As Odyssey employees, we also organize and manage Toast while juggling all of our everyday work for the brand. It is fair to say that Toast has always been a labor of love for everyone involved in its creation, and because of that we are committed to always doing it properly so we can give the riders, fans and supporters the event that they’ve come to love.

We are bummed that the stars did not align for Toast this year, but there is always 2016. Our fingers are crossed.

Born and Raised

BAR15_v2_yellow01

Empire BMX, in conjunction with Florida-based action sports organizer The Boardr, is proud to present ‘Born and Raised,’ a two-day BMX event scheduled for August 14-15 in Austin, Texas in association with the celebration of Chase Hawk Day in August.

2014 X Games BMX Park gold medalist and Austin native Chase Hawk felt the need to give back to the community that fostered his BMX skills, and decided to throw a fun and pressure-free BMX jam at Austin’s House Park to commemorate the second arrival of Austin’s “Chase Hawk Day.”

“What better way to give back to the rising generation of BMX riders in Austin than by doing an amateur contest here,” said Hawk, who partnered with Austin’s Empire BMX shop on the venture.

“We have joined forces with Chase’s sponsors (Cult, Etnies, Oakley, and Odyssey) and The Boardr for this event, and couldn’t be more proud of Chase for making it happen. This is a great thing for the BMX community, locally and beyond, and we look forward to seeing it evolve in the future,” says Empire BMX.

Justin Spriet Joins The Odyssey Crew

justin_spriet_tires_bars

I’m stoked to welcome Justin Spriet to Odyssey! I’m sure you know Justin kills it, and he’s already friends with everybody on the team, so getting him on board made perfect sense.

Justin raced for nine years – since he was four years old – which explains a lot about his control and confidence on a bicycle. Nowadays he can get down on dirt, ramps, and street, and he always makes it look smooth and clean. His versatility is impressive to say the least.

Justin wrapped up his first Odyssey filming trip last week, and I’ll just say I’m more confident than ever that he’s a great addition to the squad. He’ll also be joining us this week on the Odyssey/QBP trip in Southern California, so if you’re in the area come hang out and meet our newest addition.
