New Threads

Some New shirts are out. Hot off the presses is the “Bicycle” and the “Old School” I’ll let you figure out which is which. One Has a Maroon/burgundy Rider on a grey 50/50, the other has the Old logo in Yellow on a green 50/50. Incase you were wondering why we use 50/50, it is because they are the best. They are lighter and breathe better then 100% cotton. they retain thier color, shape, and size much better then other shirts. Check out a good “vintage” shirt. Not an abercrombie rip off, a real OLD shirt. If it looks pretty good, and the shape has stayed fitting for a long time its probably a 50/50. I guess that may have been a bit much, but thats how much I think about how our shirts come out. If we care that much about a t-shirt, figure out how much we care about more important parts.

James Hitchcox

James Hitchcox is a member of the ODYSSEY team over there in the UK.
I just saw he was on this Board so I figured I’d take the time to say he is a Bad Ass rider and a great guy. Check him out in the Megatour 1. Hopefully he will be coming around the US at Interbike?

Updates

Fellow Odyssey rider/ sprite drinker Adam Banton fractured his elbow on a toothpick gone wrong. He is on his way home from the Liquid Mix tour. Wish him a speedy recovery.

The next limited edition Jim Cielencki pedal color will be white. We will keep you posted on when they are available.

Wheel Truing

*This article first appeared in Ride UK (#70) and is reproduced here by kind permission of Ride UK.

With Tex taking a very ‘tech’ approach this month I thought I would go back to some basic stuff and do a good old fashioned tutorial. I always said I wouldn’t do this. I always said that it wasn’t really possible. What I meant was that I didn’t think I could face it. Truing wheels is an essential skill for anyone wanting to look after their own bike, yet there is no easy way to learn. Most people learn from their mates and from trial and error, but I am feeling cocky so fug-it lets have a pop at writing it down.

Whats up

Just an update for the sake of updates.

Cranks are shipping NOW(don’t be confused by non-heat treated copies that should only be used to eat chinese food). Check your shops and mailorders and Harass any shop that doesn’t have them because they are available.

Path tires are also in stores NOW.

Duralectra and Seven K rims have also shipped and are available.

The 2004 Catalog is almost finished so get ready for that by Interbike.

Chase Hawk is getting Flow parts from ODYSSEY, Chase is a rad rider, who has been spending time in Bethlehem, PA riding trails and hanging out.

I have a handful(4) prototypes on my bike and everything is working great. If you’ve seen me in the last 2 months you may have seen one of them and not even known it(that camoflauge tape works wonders).

Rich Hirsch is still filming for the Odyssey video. I’ve seen two edited parts already and they are great. Check the new ad in the latest Props(49).

I drove into a parking garage with my bike on the roof. Bike was undamaged, but the rack and Rear window didn’t like it to much.

I met a kid at the skatepark who said he could get me sponsored by Odyssey. He said since I’m so into it(by looking at my bike)I should get sponsored. He then procceded to tell me that its down in Norwalk, and there is a huge sign and about 30 street riders out front. He gave me very detailed instructions on how to get there also. (note: Odyssey is in Cerritos,Ca there is no sign, and the only street bikers out front are Ruff Riders on motorcycles doing stand up wheelies and Nose Manuals.)

If I think of anything else good, I will post it.

GARY YOUNG XGAMES SILVER

Im sure by now you’ve figured out the Gary Young won silver at the Xgames in park. And that Mike Aitken got 5th while Nasty got 8th in dirt. And that Viki Gomez got 5th in flatland. Matt Wilhem got 9th while Manuel Prado and Martti got 14th and 17th(respectivly)
But what you didn’t know is how they get ready for the Xgames. I asked Gary what he likes to do to warm up for the games, and he said “Dance”. I followed along with Gary and some other Xtreme athletes, to see how they prepare for what could be considered the biggest contest of the year. DRIVERS

The 12 and 13 tooth one piece drivers are in, and are now available on our online store.

If you run a 36/13 gear ratio and cant go any lower due to the brakes being mounted on the chainstays, do yourself a favor and get a one piece driver. it’s the perfect upgrade, no lockrings to deal with and it is a bit lighter too. Check em out!!

New Duralectra and Seven K Rims in stock now

These are the most advanced developments to a BMX rim in a long time.

The Hazard Lite Duralectra rim uses the proprietary Sanford Process Hard Anodizing to create a finish like no other rim today. Until now, Chrome plating was the hardest, most durable finish to be applied to a rim. Duralectra’s Sandford Process has higher wear rating than chrome or regular hard anodizing. In addtion, you can have similar braking power to chrome, but with a black finish. Finished in Massachusets, USA at Duralectra. www.duralectra.com.
sugg retail: $85-90 per rim

The Seven K rim is the first BMX rim to use 7005 series Aluminum. Like any other Aluminum applications, 7000 series is superior to 6000 series in strength, so the product can be scaled down and lightened up without sacraficing durability. The Seven K rim is wider and lighter than the already proven hazard lite, while being stronger than other double wall rims. Seven K is available in Chrome and Hard anodize. While not Duralectra, this process is a huge improvement to the standard anodized black rim.
sugg retail: $66-70 per rim

Backyard jam

Jim C. called in and informed us that Gary Young won pro at the Backyard jam in England. Cielencki himself got 5th, and Scott Foster got 10th. Not bad!!

According to “Seventies”, Gary Young destroyed the course.

Speaking of Jim Cielencki, people dont beleive us when we say the limited edition pedals are limited edition. 300 of each color and thats it. People/shops keep calling to find out if we will be making more of either color, and the answer is no (sorry). When we say limited edition, we mean it.

There are still a few magnesium looseball pink JC’s left on our store.
