InterBike Trade Show

There was a lot going on at interbike this year.

Some Companies have been forming comradaries, while others were prolonging drama between one another. Some new, good stuff from some unexpected companies, some crap from other companies. One company even said they were just going to copy everybody elses good parts.(THIS IS NOT A FORUM TO SPECULATE ABOUT WHO THESE COMPANIES ARE, IF I WAS GOING TO TELL YOU I WOULD DO IT NOW. ANY POSTS LIKE THAT WILL BE DELETED)

It was good to see some new companies at the show, while we missed some regular fixtures.

It seemed like the Odyssey booth was packed the whole time which is a very good thing.

New items like the B.E.T.A. Bag(backpack by Adam Banton) went over very well. The Real Tree camoflauge forks/bars were a very popular item also. They were just samples so don’t ask when will they be available, probably in 2004.

The Odyssey Video premiere went very well despite the venues very uncooperative manager. Well actually the regular manager seemed like a nice guy, but his assistant the night of the show was the annoying one. Some people were complaining that they couldn’t hear it, but everytime I turned it up I got yelled at by the cowboy assistant. But the riding was good enough to make up for the shortcomings of the venue.

The video will be out on DVD ready for Christmas with more riding, bonus stuff and one more rider section by Matt Beringer.

NEW TEAM MEMBER

It’s official, MATT BERINGER is the newest member of the Odyssey team.

We are happy to welcome Matt to the team and look forward to working with him in the future.

Lard Inspired quest for reliability and tranquility

*This article first appeared in Ride UK (#71) and is reproduced here by kind permission of Ride UK.

The last tech column had a stupid name. It’s not the name that I gave it so please don’t blame me. It was entitled “Truth” originally but for some reason it got changed to “Build Your Own Wheels”, which, although a good idea, was very little to do with the article which was just about truing wheels. This month the column is called “Lard inspired quest for reliability and tranquillity”. If it has been changed then you know it’s not because of me. I don’t think Mark ever proof-reads these articles, I think he just does a “search and replace” on fuck piss shit twat etc so this paragraph should escape editing and you will all know the real title…

drivers and sprockets

The long awaited odyssey 10t drivers and 28t compact sprockets have started shipping to distributors. For those of you who have been impatiently waiting, the time has come.

New Threads

Some New shirts are out. Hot off the presses is the “Bicycle” and the “Old School” I’ll let you figure out which is which. One Has a Maroon/burgundy Rider on a grey 50/50, the other has the Old logo in Yellow on a green 50/50. Incase you were wondering why we use 50/50, it is because they are the best. They are lighter and breathe better then 100% cotton. they retain thier color, shape, and size much better then other shirts. Check out a good “vintage” shirt. Not an abercrombie rip off, a real OLD shirt. If it looks pretty good, and the shape has stayed fitting for a long time its probably a 50/50. I guess that may have been a bit much, but thats how much I think about how our shirts come out. If we care that much about a t-shirt, figure out how much we care about more important parts.

James Hitchcox

James Hitchcox is a member of the ODYSSEY team over there in the UK.
I just saw he was on this Board so I figured I’d take the time to say he is a Bad Ass rider and a great guy. Check him out in the Megatour 1. Hopefully he will be coming around the US at Interbike?

Updates

Fellow Odyssey rider/ sprite drinker Adam Banton fractured his elbow on a toothpick gone wrong. He is on his way home from the Liquid Mix tour. Wish him a speedy recovery.

The next limited edition Jim Cielencki pedal color will be white. We will keep you posted on when they are available.

Wheel Truing

*This article first appeared in Ride UK (#70) and is reproduced here by kind permission of Ride UK.

With Tex taking a very ‘tech’ approach this month I thought I would go back to some basic stuff and do a good old fashioned tutorial. I always said I wouldn’t do this. I always said that it wasn’t really possible. What I meant was that I didn’t think I could face it. Truing wheels is an essential skill for anyone wanting to look after their own bike, yet there is no easy way to learn. Most people learn from their mates and from trial and error, but I am feeling cocky so fug-it lets have a pop at writing it down.

Whats up

Just an update for the sake of updates.

Cranks are shipping NOW(don’t be confused by non-heat treated copies that should only be used to eat chinese food). Check your shops and mailorders and Harass any shop that doesn’t have them because they are available.

Path tires are also in stores NOW.

Duralectra and Seven K rims have also shipped and are available.

The 2004 Catalog is almost finished so get ready for that by Interbike.

Chase Hawk is getting Flow parts from ODYSSEY, Chase is a rad rider, who has been spending time in Bethlehem, PA riding trails and hanging out.

I have a handful(4) prototypes on my bike and everything is working great. If you’ve seen me in the last 2 months you may have seen one of them and not even known it(that camoflauge tape works wonders).

Rich Hirsch is still filming for the Odyssey video. I’ve seen two edited parts already and they are great. Check the new ad in the latest Props(49).

I drove into a parking garage with my bike on the roof. Bike was undamaged, but the rack and Rear window didn’t like it to much.

I met a kid at the skatepark who said he could get me sponsored by Odyssey. He said since I’m so into it(by looking at my bike)I should get sponsored. He then procceded to tell me that its down in Norwalk, and there is a huge sign and about 30 street riders out front. He gave me very detailed instructions on how to get there also. (note: Odyssey is in Cerritos,Ca there is no sign, and the only street bikers out front are Ruff Riders on motorcycles doing stand up wheelies and Nose Manuals.)

If I think of anything else good, I will post it.
