We posted Jimmy’s bike check a few months ago and he recently got some new parts for it. It’s a Purple Rain wheelset that we’ve been saving for him and it’s looking great on his bike!
Here’s the first part of Jimmy’s Q&A from the questions you guys posted a while ago. There was a lot of questions in there so we’re splitting the video up into two segments. In this portion, Jimmy talks about things from world travel to what it’s like to experience death. The sun even came out for a bit while we were filming this Q&A so there’s a few riding clips thrown in at the end! Watch the vid and stay tuned for part two!
In case you were wondering what Jimmy’s riding these days, here a flipbook for you to look through! It’s an all metal bike for the guy who runs Metal Bikes. Read more for a brief Q&A about his setup and a few extra photos.
Also, keep checking back ’cause there’ll be a new video of Jimmy popping up soon!
We’ll be doing a Jimmy Levan Q&A soon and want to gather up some questions from you guys. If there’s a question you’ve been pondering lately that you’re just dying to have answered, now’s your chance. Just Ask Jimmy and he’ll share with you decades of experience and BMX awesomeness.
Ask away in the comments section!
Ben came across this Jimmy Levan bio in a 1991 issue of Go Magazine. To put it into perspective, at the time of the interview, he was 17 years old and had national number 14 for 17 expert in racing. The full scan’s after the jump, but to get to it, you have to envision yourself doing a bar hop.
I wanted to put up the scan earlier but the scanner at work wasn’t working so now you’re getting an evening update. However, things worked out ’cause I came across this other little gem when I got on my computer (originally from Ryan Fudger’s box):
The other day a bunch of us went riding around downtown with Aitken. We went to the vegan Chinese place and then cruised around downtown. It was so good to see him back on his bike all stoked. The craziest news is that Mike rode the first four sets at Tanner today. I wasn’t down there today, but when I heard it I couldn’t believe it. – Matt Beringer
Read that again and then high five the next person you see.
Earlier today, I was trying to track down the online scan of Jimmy Levan jumping the Austin Church Gap and came up empty handed. I was bummed… but then this interview popped up at DigBMX.com.
EDIT: The photo’s in there now, along with a better, non-sequence photo of the trailer gap! What a great way to start the day. Thanks Will!
Here are some team updates from this past week. Steven Spielberg twittered about Jim Cielencki’s tooth-hanger ET a few days ago. It was in regards to a web edit JC made. In it, JC walks you through the Model C and capped the video off with some solid riding. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can view it after the read more link or at the Sunday site.
Aaron Ross has a web-edit up as well… kind of… it’s like a video blog / news update of him hanging out in the front porch with Sergio Layos and Tony Hamlin. He’s still out of commission due to a treacherous tramp bike incident so there’s no actual riding involved. However, a pair of fluorescent red scissors can be spotted. Visit the Etnies site to watch it. Also, feel free to send him get well soon messages on Facebook.
